The Superior Court has imposed a $5,000 cash bail on a man who is accused of attempted rape when he entered a residence in Chalan Kiya and pulled off a woman’s blanket.

Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph Camacho imposed yesterday a $5,000 cash bail on Tyneth Santos Mariur, a man who allegedly entered a home in Chalan Kiya and pulled off a woman’s blanket while she was asleep.

Mariur, 19, is also facing charges of burglary, disturbing the peace, and criminal trespass.

Following his hearing yesterday, Camacho remanded Mariur back to the Department of Corrections’ custody and ordered him to return to court on Nov. 23, for his preliminary hearing. Mariur’s arraignment is set for Nov. 28, at 9am before Presiding Judge Roberto Naraja.

According to court documents, Department of Public Safety officers responded last Saturday, Nov. 12, to a call about an attempted rape in a residence in Chalan Kiya at around 4:11am. At the scene, officers met with the victim who was in tears inside a car near the house.

She told police that she got home from work on Friday night at around 10pm and went to bed. However, she left her door unlocked in case her boyfriend arrives and sleeps over.

At around 3am, she was awakened by the feeling of someone pulling off her blanket. She said when she looked up, she saw Mariur standing next to her and holding her blanket. This prompted the victim to scream, get out of bed, and head to her car where she called her boyfriend and the police.

At the scene, police also interviewed Mariur who, police noted, smelled heavily of alcohol.

Mariur told police that he heard someone at the back of his house so he went over to the victim’s residence to ask the woman’s boyfriend, a cop, to help him look around for “stealers.” However, when no one responded to his knocks, Mariur said he entered the home and called out to the cop from the living room.

He said while he was calling out for the cop, the woman woke up and asked him what he was doing in their house, to which he responded that he was looking for her boyfriend.

When the victim told Mariur that her boyfriend was outside their house, he went out in search for him and when he returned, the woman told him to go home.
