500 Sails swimming lessons continue

An organization that aims to revive the traditional boating culture of the CNMI will resume offering swimming lessons that were interrupted by Super Typhoon Yutu in October 2018.

500 Sails said it would be continuing its morning swim sessions with the Dolphin Club Saipan on Feb. 4, 2019.

The swimming lessons will continue every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 6am to 7am at the Guma Sakman, across the courthouse in Susupe.

“…The 500 Sails’ main office, the Guma Sakman, had become roofless,” the statement explained. It said that, with the help of community partners, 500 Sails and the Gamsun Project student lifeguards “worked to clear the tin and debris in the water, making it safe to swim [in] again.”

The 500 Sail’s Gamsun Project is a youth swimming program.

“As the Guma Sakman awaits repair, participants who prefer to rinse…on-site are asked to bring their own rinse water until showers and bathrooms are functional again,” the statement noted.

Both the swimming lessons and the Gamsun Project are free of charge.
