$5.8M awarded to repair AMP’s shoreline barriers
Delegate Gregorio Kilili C. Sablan (D-MP) disclosed over the weekend that GPPC Inc. has been awarded a $5.8-million contract to repair sections of the American Memorial Park’s shoreline barriers that have deteriorated due to a series of storms.
Sablan also said in his e-kilili newsletter that he met Gov. Arnold I. Palacios and Lt. Gov. David M. Apatang in his (Sablan’s) office last week where they sat down to update each other on the work each of their offices is doing since their meeting last month.
Sablan said the National Park Service announced Thursday the award of a $5,826,464 contract to GPPC of As Perdido, Saipan to repair the failed concrete mat barriers and line the marina causeways with engineered rock revetment. He said the project is expected to be completed in January 2025.
According to NPS, the shoreline protection systems at the Smiling Cove and Outer Cove Marianas at American Memorial Park were built over 30 years ago. It said the installation of the new revetments will prevent further erosion of the shoreline and stabilize the road, which is vital to user safety at the marinas.
As for his meeting with Palacios and Apatang, the delegate said the congressional office is committed to helping the Palacios-Apatang administration where it can. Sablan said that having an open and consistent dialogue is key to getting the work done.
