483 junk cars disposed of

From October 2017 to August 2018, the Saipan Mayor’s Office managed to remove 483 junk cars in different parts of the island.

According field operations director Joan Aquino, a total of 405 other junk cars still need to be removed as part of the office’s debris cleaning and maintenance efforts.

Many of the vehicles that remain to be picked up were not removed, Aquino said, because their owners were either not at home or Saipan Mayor’s Office staff members were unable to access the vehicles due to more debris blocking the entrance.

To resolve this issue, Aquino has asked the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. to help clean up the debris—mostly trees and plants trapping the cars—so they could remove these abandoned vehicles.
