The Sex Offender Task Force did a four-day sweep of registered sex offenders last week, resulting in the location of 45 registered sex offenders, including three who were arrested for alleged possession and growing of marijuana plants.

Department of Public Safety spokesperson Jacqueline Rae Shepard said yesterday that Angel Palacios, 45; Crispin Taitano, 69; and Stephen Abright, 47, were all arrested for possession of a controlled substance.

Shepard said the task force has been doing compliance check operations every three months, to confirm the offenders’ location, verify compliance, and obtain updated photos.

Shepard said the four-day operation that started last Tuesday, April 17, resulted in the successful location and verification of 30 sex offenders on Saipan, nine on Tinian, and six on Rota.

The compliance check also resulted in the arrest of Palacios, Taitano, and Abright.

Shepard said Palacios was arrested last Tuesday at 3:45pm after task force officers found two marijuana plants in plain sight at his Dandan home.

Shepard said Taitano was arrested last Thursday at 2:35pm after officers found him in possession of 117 marijuana plants at his home in Songsong, Rota.

Later that afternoon, officers also arrested Abright after six marijuana plants were allegedly found growing in his Sinapalo, Rota residence.

Shepard said all marijuana plants discovered during the operation were seized and taken into evidence.
