41st Christmas Island Relay tomorrow

About 150 runners are expected to tear up the pavement in Northern Marianas Athletics’ 41st Annual Christmas Island Relay set for tomorrow, Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, at 6am.
The 13.7 mile-long course begins south at the Pacific Islands Club in San Antonio and runs all the way through to the north at Last Command Post in Marpi.
The open mixed teams of five runners each will individually alternate through one mile stages from start to finish.
This year’s race includes Agape Torch Bearers 1, Agape Torch Bearers 2, #Beastmates, Baby Got Track, Buns&Guns, Buns&Guns-Dos, DMSTottots, Geckos Run For Their Breakfast, Gemini’s Rising, Happy Go Runners, Rex’s Team, Run Saipan Alpha, Run Saipan Bravo, Run Saipan Pacemakers, Run Saipan Silent Knights, Run Saipan AJA, Saipan Paddling Club, Sleighers, Spaeth Force, US Army 9th MSC Flag, US Army CNMI Flag, US Army United States Flag, Team Santa 2022 Open, Team Taffy, Thisiswhatiwanttodoonxmaseve, and Yuletide Yinzers.
For the youth division, three teams—TeamSanta 2022, Agape Youth 1, and Agape Youth 2—are vying for first place.
“The Annual Christmas Island Relay is just one of the many activities and events that NMA hosts in its continued efforts to promote healthy lifestyle in our community. We invite you to join us and help inspire as many people as possible to get moving to help contribute to uplifting the world through sport,” said NMA.
According to Run Saipan president Edward Dela Cruz Jr. there will be “at least 30 minimum transport vehicles on top of law enforcement and race staff vehicles out there. I want motorists to expect heavy traffic at Chalan Piao intersection between 5:45am to 6:10am.”
