According to Camacho’s campaign manager, John Borja, they have been working hard since last year. “We believe that the municipality of Saipan belongs to the community and what we’re going to do is to bring the municipality back to the community,” Borja told Saipan Tribune.

Borja pointed out that Camacho has been working hard on the revitalization of villages, the Neighborhood Watch program, and beautification of villages since becoming chairman of the Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council.

Borja said they would like to bring back the youth sports for the villages as well.

“Before, there was a village competition in sports, especially among the young generation and we want to bring that back to the youth of every village,” Borja said.

One of Camacho’s supporters, Lucy Cabrera, said that an issue she would like to raise is the cleanliness of the island.

“Another issue is that many of the smaller stores have trash outside and it is not inviting [to look at]. Camacho would listen to these concerns and I know he’s very active,” Cabrera said.

Another supporter, John Aldan, said that Camacho has experience with the municipality and this will help him when he becomes the mayor of Saipan.

“He used to be a councilman and I know he can do a better job as a mayor,” Aldan said.

Camacho said his slogan is “Forward together.”

“We need to work together with the community to fulfill the issues and needs, and a lot of things can be accomplished when you work with the community,” he said.

“I am not running as mayor ‘for’ the people. I am running as mayor ‘with’ the people and that’s my difference as a mayoral candidate,” he added.

Camacho is running as an independent candidate.

Other Saipan mayoral candidates are independent candidate David Apatang and Republican candidate Joe Reyes.
