More than 40 swimmers join SSC pentathlon meet

Over 40 swimmers from host Saipan Swim Club and Tsunami Swimming Center Saipan participated in last Saturday’s SSC Pentathlon Swim Meet at the Kan Pacific Swimming Pool.

Twenty SSC swimmers joined the pentathlon. The list included siblings Jinie and Jin Ju Thompson, Lennozuke and Jinnosuke Suzuki, Ayaka and Dino Sato, Kento and Taiyo Akimaru, and Conatsu and Coume Kaga, R.J. Pierce, Davean Gonzales, Rintaro Miyawaki, David Boyer, Christina Villacrusis, Cory Lee, Taiga Sato, Jasmin Frink, Akira Kadokura and Rinto Takahashi.

Tsunami Saipan fielded 23 swimmers led by Angel De Jesus. Completing the list were Aasish and Ashley Dangol, Daime and Kyona Rivera, Aika and Nanaka Watanabe, Rentaro and Kana Suzuki, Shaunalyn Babauta, Ayumi Obligacion, Jhota Yoshio, Hans Xu, Natsuki Nagata, Isaiah Aleksenko, Sophia Gauran, Juhn Tenorio, Miku Tammy, Nelson Battalones, Anthony Camacho-Deleon Guerrero, Kathrine Illahi, Tomie Kenta, Mark Maestro, and Kaito Yanai.

The event kicked off with the 50 butterfly race for boys and girls U8, 9 to 10, and 11 to 12 age groups. There were six hearts in these age groups, while swimmers in the 13 to 14, 15 to 16, and over 18 divisions did a longer race—the 100m butterfly.

Next up for the pentathlon participants was the 50m backstroke, which also had six heats for the first three age groups, whole the last three divisions did the 100m backstroke event. The same process were implemented in the 50m breaststroke and 50m freestyle and the 100m breaststroke and 100m freestyle, while the 200m individual medley for the U8, 9 to 10, and 11 to 12 age groups had only five heats and the 13 to 14, 15 to 16 and over 18 divisions featured two. The 200m medley relay had only one heat with all three teams composed of SSC swimmers. Jin Ju Thompson teamed up with Conatsu Kaga and Frink, while Taiga Sato joined forces with Takahashi, Pierce, and Lennosuke Suzuki in the boys division. The other boys team had Lennosuke Suzuki, Miyawaki, Taiyo Akimaru, and Kadokura.

Overall, swimmers raced in 12 events and official results will be reported later this week.
