40 new cases; 6 hospitalized
Forty additional individuals have been confirmed positive for COVID-19, bringing the CNMI total to 10,575 cases since March 28, 2020.
All 40 cases were identified on March 15, 2022, one of which was identified on Tinian. The vaccination statuses of the 40 cases are pending verification.
As of March 16, 2022, there were six individuals hospitalized as a result of COVID-19: three unvaccinated and three fully vaccinated
In Guam, the Joint Information Center was notified of two COVID-19-related fatalities. The 340th COVID-19-related fatality occurred at the Guam Regional Medical City on March 10, 2022. The patient was a 69-year-old male, vaccinated with a booster, who had underlying health conditions and tested positive on Feb. 28.
The 341st COVID-19-related fatality occurred at the Guam Memorial Hospital on March 16, 2022. The patient was an 81-year-old male, fully vaccinated without a booster, who had underlying health conditions and tested positive on March 8.
“Jeff, Josh, and I are deeply sorry for the family and friends on the passing of their loved ones, and we pray you find healing and peace,” said Guam Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero. “As we begin a slow and gradual lifting of restrictions, we must remain vigilant, especially among vulnerable family members.”
Of the 10,575 total cases that have been identified in the CNMI, there have been 10,343 recoveries; 201 active cases; and 31 COVID-19-related deaths. A total of 31 COVID-19 vaccine shots were administered on March 16, 2022; of the eligible population, 58.3% have received an additional dose. The vaccination rate is calculated using the 2020 Census population estimates for the CNMI and includes the eligible 5-years-old and older population.
A total of 241 COVID-19 tests were conducted on March 15, 2022: 209 via Community-Based Testing; 18 at Koblerville COVID-19 Community Center; 14 at Rota Health Center. (PR, Saipan Tribune)
