Jacem Printing's Brandon Aulerio splits the defense of Mawati in their Blue Haus caging game last Monday at the Gualo Rai Basketball Court. (Walter Cepeda Sutherland) MBI, Joeten Superstore, Jacem Printing, and NVM are still alive in the Blue Haus Invitational Basketball League playoffs after Monday’s and Wednesday’s matchups at the Gualo Rai Basketball Court.

MBI eliminated Wings Travel, 64-51, in Wednesday’s curtain raiser, before Joeten Superstrore took the floor and knocked out Bud’s Brothers, 71-68, with a big second half rally.

Then back on Monday, Jacem Printing rallied over Mawati, 81-76, after a slow start, while NVM ran over I-Fashion, 67-48, in the late night pairing.

In Wednesday’s opener, MBI worked out an early 10-7 lead after the tip thanks largely to seven points from Noel David.

David added five more points in the second period as his team maintained a 21-17 edge at halftime.

After a low scoring half to start the game, MBI turned it up a notch in the third quarter and jumped ahead, 46-31.

David led the charge with 10 markers to go with three treys from his teammates in the period.

Wings Travel’s Ed Yalung managed 11 points in the clutch, but his team could not bridge the gap in the final period. MBI’s Leo Galarse scored seven points to help seal the deal.

David led all scorers with 24 points, while Wings Travel’s Nate Mateo scrambled for a team-high 18 on the short end.

In Wednesday’s second match, Joeten managed a 14-11 edge in the opening period with six different players chipping in on the action.

Bud’s Brothers battled back and contained Joeten to just 10 points in the second quarter and stole the lead, 31-24, at the break. Bud’s Brothers’s Joel Saplan and Walter Brillo delivered six points apiece in the surge.

Joeten adjusted after halftime and reassumed control, 54-50, heading into the final canto.

Christian De Vero ignited the rally with seven markers early in the third quarter.

It remained anyone’s game all the way to the end, but Joeten managed to sink four pressure-packed free throws late in the game to secure the win.

Bud’s Brothers’ Brillo and R.J. Castro outscored the Joeten duo of DeVero and Amor Casabuena, 37-29. However, the latter received much more bench support in the match.

In Monday’s opener, Mawati jumped out to an early 22-10 lead as Nikko Salem and Don Dela Cruz scored six points apiece in the first quarter.

Jacem’s Josh Kiyoshi then pulled a string of 10 points at the start of the second period to help trim his team’s deficit to eight, 29-37, at the pause.

Depsite a couple of 3-pointers by Mawati, Jacem buckled down on defense in the period.

Jacem carried the momentum over into the second half and took the lead, 54-49, heading into the payoff period. Jacem’s shooters buried four treys in the third quarter comeback. Notably, Mawati’s Dela Cruz rolled his ankle in the period, causing a significant void in his team’s game plan.

Jacem hit two more 3-balls early in the fourth quarter and held on strong for the win. Kiyoshi added 12 points in the clutch with eight more in support from Brandon Aulerio.

Kiyoshi led all scorers with 30 points, while Mawati’s Salem turned in 24 in the loss.

In Monday’s late tiff, NVM built a 21-10 lead in the opening 10 minutes and never looked back. Jesse Mina paced NVM with nine points in the first quarter.

NVM again stuffed I-Fashion to just 10 markers in the second quarter as it maintained a comfortable, 37-20, margin at the half.

NVM’s defense continued to dominate, containing I-Fashion to just nine points in the third period, while NVM’s bench switched over to cruise control.

The game was out of reach by the start of the final quarter. Mina finished with a game-high 14 points, while I-Fashion’s lone double-digit scorer, Art Salazar, managed 10.
