4 hurt, including two children, in collision in Chalan Kiya

Four persons were hurt—including one who had to undergo surgery and two children—during a collision involving an SUV and a cargo truck last Thursday in Chalan Kiya.

According to a police report of the incident, the SUV driver sustained serious injuries from the collision but was responsive, and was admitted to the Commonwealth Health Center’s Emergency Room for surgery. The second occupant in the SUV—a 2-year-old girl—was kept at CHC for further observation. The third occupant of the SUV—a 10-year-old boy—was treated and released. The driver of the cargo truck stated he also had pain, was admitted to the hospital, was treated and then released.

The CNMI Department of Public Safety report stated that police officers were dispatched to the auto-auto collision in Chalan Kiya last Thursday, July 15, 2021, at about 7:55am.

At the scene, officers observed a silver SUV with extensive damage to the front of the vehicle and a white cargo truck resting off the roadway with extensive damages to the front of the vehicle.

Medics arrived and transported the occupants to the hospital.

The accident caused a massive traffic jam on both sides of the highway.

The CNMI Department of Public Safety highly reminds motorists to be attentive and drive responsibly, never to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs, always wear your seatbelts, and when being approached by an emergency vehicle, pull to the right shoulder of the road and stop. DPS also encourages all motorists to refrain from speeding. Call 911 anytime to report a crime, emergency, or disturbance.
