Victoria Chentsova represented the CNMI to the 16th FINA World Championships in Kazan, Russia before leaving for college and had a fitting “farewell” after setting two age group and national swim records.

She joined Heat 1 of the qualifying heat for the 400m freestyle and clocked in at 4:44.15 to surpass the four-year marks of fellow Saipan Swim Club swimmer Xenavee Pangelinan, who posted the 17 to 18 age group and national records of 4:45.21 on July 29, 2001 during the world championship in Fukuoka, Japan.

Chentsova’s other age group and national marks came in the 800m freestyle, submitting 9:48.87 during the qualifying races to crush the nearly 20-year-old record of SSC’s Anneka Sakovich, who logged 9:50.22 on Aug. 18, 1995.

The CNMI swimmer’s record swims in Russia came a few weeks after she made it to the finals of the 200m freestyle event in the Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea. Chentsova eventually missed the podium finish after placing fifth in the medal round.
