Four men were arrested last Tuesday for attempting to steal galvanized pipes that they have removed from an abandoned hotel in As Lito.

According to a Department of Public Safety statement, DPS received a 911 call at about 2:42pm last Tuesday, reporting a theft-in-progress taking place along Flame Tree Road, in the village of As Lito

Police intercepted four suspects—Bo Fei Li, Gui Hua Li, Kun Zhai Li, and Zhao Li Fei—who later admitted to removing the galvanized pipes within the abandoned hotel with the intent to take them.

At the scene, police met with the caller who stated that he saw a small group of individuals carrying galvanized pipes away from an abandoned hotel, and toward the jungle area. The witness then called for police assistance.

Police learned that the witness, a close family member of the owners of the property, noticed while driving by the abandoned hotel a suspicious vehicle make its way toward the back of the abandoned building.

When the caller drove around to the front of the hotel, he heard a loud banging sound coming from the back of the hotel on the lower floor.

As the witness walked over to the edge of the building, he looked down and saw two pickup trucks parked at the bottom and nearby was a man-made trail leading to and from the abandoned hotel. The caller then rushed to the airport to call for police assistance.
