3×3 Hoopfest Marianas kicks off today

Eleven matches will be played in the opening day of the 3×3 Hoopfest Marianas 2017 this afternoon at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
The tournament will kick off with games in the boys U16 and women’s open divisions. At Court A at 5pm, Boonkgang takes on Banger Bros in the boys U16 category, while in the women’s field at Court B, it will be FAB-IV versus Blue Babes. Each match will be played for only 10 minutes with the first team to score 21 points or the squad that is ahead after the game to be declared the winner.
Also scheduled to play at Court A are Half Gang vs LeAir Ballers at 5:30pm and Big B’s vs Ol’Aces 2 at 6pm in the boys U19; PIC vs CTSI at 6:30pm in the women’s open; and Rollers 1 vs PIC 1 at 7pm open; and Trilogy vs Sidney’s Team at 7:30pm in the men’s open.
Over at Court B, the pair of boys U19 games will have Mix Breed battling BallzDeep at 5:30pm and Warriors dueling V-God at 6pm. Then in the men’s open division, Leroy’s Team challenges Rollers 2 at 6:30pm, and the Ol’Aces square off against PIC 2 at 7pm.
The final list of teams in each division has yet to be finalized, as Northern Mariana Islands Basketball Federation is still accepting squads, but registration is only until tonight. Tournament format will also be determined once the participants lists are completed.
Today’s games represent the Saipan leg of the 3×3 Hoopfest Marianas 2017 and matches will run until this Saturday.
Winners in the men’s and women’s open divisions of the Saipan competition will have a chance to represent the CNMI to the 3×3 contest in the 2017 Pacific Mini Games that will be held in Vanuatu in December. Tinian and Rota will have their separate qualifying tournaments on Sept. 10 and Sept. 22-23, respectively. Qualifiers in the Saipan, Tinian, and Rota competitions will advance to the final stage of the 3×3 Hoopfest Marianas 2017 and will play in the Sept. 30 to Oct. 1 games at the Civic Center Court in Susupe.
