$359,537 awarded to Guam to help families conserve energy
The Guam Energy Office was recently awarded $213,233 in program funds for the 2019 Weatherization Assistance Program from the U.S. Department of Energy.
In addition to this amount, $146,304 in funds from a previous program year was authorized for continued use through March 31, 2020.
The Weatherization Assistance Program is a federally funded annual program that helps reduce energy costs for eligible low-income households by improving the energy efficiency of their homes while ensuring their health and safety.
The program allows for the replacement of refrigerators, window air conditioning units, light bulbs, and the installation of smoke/carbon monoxide detectors.
Upon qualification, priority is given to the elderly, individuals with disabilities, and families with children.
WAP services are free to households meeting criteria based on total household income and acceptable housing. To qualify, the total household income shall not exceed the maximum income as stated on a chart, which can be found on the website at energy.guam.gov/programs-2 or call GEO at 646-4361. (PR)
