The coordinator of the recently concluded 18th Annual NMI Crime Stoppers Softball Fundraising Tournament thanked all the sponsors of the event and said the program is an integral part of helping to prevent crime in the Commonwealth.

“A sincere appreciation to all the sponsors for their generous contributions to a great cause. An important cause to prevent crime in the CNMI. Through their continued support the teams and players come out and compete, but most importantly spread awareness to our community to be vigilant and be the eyes and ears to ensure our community and our residents remain safe,” said Sen. Vinnie “Vinson” Sablan (R-Saipan).

The sponsors of the 18th Annual NMI Crime Stoppers Softball Fundraising Tournament are MegaByte, MARPAC, IT&E, Docomo Pacific, Pacific Amusement, BRABU Pharmacy, Tan Siu Lin Foundation, Saipan Stevedore, Saipan Vegas, and Bridge Capital LLC.

MegaByte won an unprecedented seventh straight championship and eighth overall after topping the 18th Annual NMI Crime Stoppers Softball Fundraising Tournament last Oct. 30 at the Capitol Hill baseball field.

The erstwhile six-time defending champions, made up of family members, actually swept through the elimination round to finish as the No. 1 seed. It then faced tourney newcomer Tan Siu Lin Foundation in the finals and was upset, 16-15, in Game 1.

Good thing they had the twice-to-beat advantage in the championship round of the double-elimination tournament, as MegaByte quickly regrouped in Game 2, smacking the upstart TSL team, 22-10, to win it all again.

Former NMI Crime Stoppers coordinator Tom Blas and Department of Public Safety’s Jerry Ayuyu worked together with the NMI Crime Stoppers board of directors to create the fundraising softball tournament 18 years ago. This event not only showcases some of the best softball talents the CNMI has to offer, but also provides opportunities for businesses to get together and have a weekend of camaraderie and fun—all for a great cause.

The NMI Crime Stoppers program was founded in 1989 and works with Law Enforcement (local and federal), the media and the community to help prevent and solve crime.
