3-way tie for Golden Boot lead
The battle for the Golden Boot Award has come to a tie between Katrina Costales of Shirley’s Football Club, Kaithlyn Chavez of Southern United, and Irish Pagarao from Kanoa FC in Division A of 2021 Dove Spring Women’s League.
With just one game to go, Costales, Chavez, and Pagarao, who have recorded 12 goals apiece, have just one shot to capture this season’s Golden Boot award.
Costales
Costales made it to the board in all but two of Shirley’s matches, with her best scoring output seen in three of the team’s eight matches, tallying three goals in each match.
She carried the team in their first match of the season where they edged out Southern United, 7-6, scoring three of the team’s winning goals. In the following match on March 7, Costales led the way with her three goals to show the way to an 8-0 victory over TanHoldings FC. In Shirley’s most recent match against TanHoldings last May 2, Costales contributed three goals to the team’s 9 to conquer their foe, 9-2.
Costales didn’t make it on the board for the team’s March 14 and April 25 matches but scored one goal in the March 21, April 11, and April 18 matches.
Chavez
Chavez, who is also vying for the Gold Boot award, made it on the board in six of Southern United’s matches of the season. Her best scoring output was seen during the May 2 match against Shirley’s FC, and April 18 against TanHoldings, recording three goals for each.
Chavez led the way, scoring 3 of Southern United’s 5 goals, when they played against Kanoa on May 2 in which the match ended in a 5-5 draw. During the April 18 match against TanHoldings, Chavez contributed 3 points to the team’s 7-3 victory.
She did not show up on the board for the March 21, and April 25 matches but recorded 2 points in the Feb. 28 match against Shirley’s, and 1 point in the March 7 and March 14 match.
Pagarao
Pagarao, the third competitor for the Golden Boot Award, made it to just five of Kanoa’s eight matches but she gained a shot at the Golden Boot Award when she scored 5 goals during the May 2 match where Kanoa went up against Southern United.
In addition, she made an average of 2 points per game after contributing two points during the Feb 28, March 7, and April 18 matches where Kanoa faced TanHoldings, Southern United, and Shirley’s, respectively.
In the April 25 game, however, Pagarao made it to the board after scoring 1 goal during their match against TanHoldings where they took an 8-2 victory.
