3 road projects in design phase

Seven contractors have submitted proposals for three new road design projects of the Department of Public Works.
Highway administrator Sonya Pangelinan Dancoe said yesterday that these projects are the road and drainage improvement and hazard elimination on Beach Road from American Memorial Park to San Antonio; hazard elimination on Routes 21, 24, and 27 on Tinian; and the road improvement design on Route 11 on Rota.
Dancoe said the Tinian project involves stripping or putting lane dividers and regulatory signs as well as the improvement of road intersections.
The Rota project will improve the design of the 2.7-mile road. Dancoe described this project as “a little bit challenging” given the “critical wildlife and habitat issues” involved.
Dancoe noted that they are now in the process of evaluating the firms’ design proposals. “Design evaluation takes much longer because there’s a lot of negotiations involved in terms of the project’s scope,” she told Saipan Tribune.
The projects are projected to be awarded by the end of February.
Meanwhile, three ongoing road design projects have reached 30-percent completion, said Dancoe. These are the road designs for the Tun Segundo traffic system by the post office, Route 36 from Bird Island to Kingfisher, and hazard elimination for Route 10 on Rota.
