Three more Northern Marianas College graduates have just passed the challenging National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses.

Maria Atrero, Mayleen Aldan, and Joseph Ichihara have passed the NCLEX, joining the ranks of other NMC graduates who passed the difficult exam before them.

The NCLEX-RN exam is the exam nursing graduates in the CNMI have to pass in order to be able to practice nursing. The exam tests the knowledge, skills, and abilities of nursing graduates in order to certify that they are equipped with the capability to apply entry level nursing practices correctly.

NMC president Dr. Carmen Fernandez said, “I want to congratulate Maria, Mayleen, and Joseph on becoming the latest graduates to pass this difficult exam and look forward to hearing more about their success as medical professionals.”

Rosa Tudela, chairperson of NMC’s Nursing Department, said, “Joseph, Maria, and Mayleen worked very hard in studying and preparing themselves to pass the NCLEX-RN exam. I applaud them for their efforts and dedication and we are very proud of their recent accomplishments! They are ready to give back to our community their selfless service of care and devotion in their journey as healthcare providers. I have no doubt that they will do their very best for our people.”

Atrero said her interest in pursuing a nursing degree started after being a part of the nursing assistantship program in high school when she realized how she enjoyed being a part of the medical field and being able to help people.

“The NMC Nursing instructors gave me a head start with what I needed to know, as well as helped me gain experience on what I could expect working as a nurse in the medical field,” Atrero said.

Aldan said the NMC Nursing Program prepared her by giving her the basic fundamentals and nursing knowledge and skills.

“Both of my parents are nurses and I have seen them help many people, both sick and well in our community,” Aldan said. “So I chose to pursue nursing because it is a great opportunity to help people in many ways from all walks of life.”

Talking about what factors that helped him pass the exam, Ichihara said, “My parents were there to support me, and my classmates encouraged me not to give up, and their support helped me. I believe my prayers and the prayers of those who prayed for me is the major factor in passing this difficult exam.”
