3 CNMI jr. players make Top 10 rankings
Three CNMI junior tennis players barged into Oceania Tennis Federation’s Top 10 rankings for the boys 14 and under age group in the Pacific.
Robbie Schorr is the highest ranked Commonwealth player at No. 2, as he earned 1,500 points from the North Pacific Regional Championships 2015 held in Guam early this month. Schorr ruled the singles event of the regionals and finished third in the doubles (with Ken Song). Song and Vincent Tudela also made it to the Top 10, placing fourth and ninth, respectively, as of June 27.

Song, who collected 800 ranking points, was runner-up to Schorr in the singles event, while Tudela (440) finished second in the doubles and fourth in the singles. Two more CNMI bets are in the Top 35 with Haruya Eda at No. 19 (240) and Steven Goodwin at No. 25 (140). Vanuatu’s Clement Mainguy leads the rankings with his 2,500 points.
CNMI coach Jeff Race said ranking points came from the various tournaments sanctioned by OTF. He added that each tournament has different levels as far as awarding of points is concerned with the upcoming Pacific Oceania Junior Championships in Fiji giving away the most ranking points.
“The regional championship is the second highest and the third will be the tournament the East, West, and North-member countries will each host,” Race said.
For the CNMI, which is a member of the North group, ranking points will be at stake in the Tan Holdings Tennis Classic that will be held in November. The Tan Holdings Classic could also draw participants from Guam and the Federated States of Micronesia, as the visitors may get assistance from International Tennis Federation. ITF will also provide support to CNMI players (boys 14 and under) who will be competing in ranking events outside the CNMI.
