Schorr, who lost to Luther Lizama in last year’s division title match, 6-8, boosted his chances for a return trip to the finals after blanking A.J. Hudkins, 6-0, 6-0, Schorr is the top-seeded player in the 11-netter field and drew a bye in the first round of the upper half of the bracket. Hudkins earned the right to face Schorr in the quarterfinals after sweeping Jeffrey Seo, 6-1, 6-4.

Schorr will meet in the finals the winner of the Ken Song-Joshua Abragan quarterfinal showdown. Song also got a bye in the first round, while Abragan advanced following a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Hyun Woo Chin.

In the lower half of the bracket, Tony Kim and Vincent Tudela notched the two semis tickets.

Kim, who fell to Lizama in the semifinals last year, gained his second straight semis appearance in the boys U14 singles after outclassing Haruya Eda, 6-1, 6-1.

Tudela also needed only two sets to thwart Steven Goodwin in the quarterfinals, 6-2, 6-1, and arrange a semis date with Kim. Before bowing to Tudela, Goodwin came off an easy 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Allan Lee.

The semis matches in the boys U14 singles and other divisions will be played this weekend.

Meanwhile, Daniel Kang and Gary Ramsey booked the first win in their respective age groups.

Kang is entered in the boys U10 singles and downed Richard Steele, 6-3. The division has a round-robin format with Anthony Gregoire and Seung Jin Baek completing the short field.

The men’s 40-and-over singles has the same format with Ramsey barging into the win column following his 6-2, 7-5 win over Richard’s father, Randy. Others competing in the division are Eric Abragan and Nicky Nichols.
