The Northern Marianas Humanities Council will provide CNMI nonprofits, government agencies, and higher education institutions with a second round of grant funding opportunity under the American Såtba-Ammalaw Program. Grant awards are intended for the support of activities that help organizations prevent, prepare for, respond to, and recover from the coronavirus.

The next ASAP application deadline is Dec. 20, 2021. CNMI nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and accredited public and 501(c)(3) institutions of higher education are eligible to apply for grant funding and can request up to $20,000 for humanities projects, strategic planning, capacity building, technical support, and other activities related to preparing, responding to, and recovering from the coronavirus. CNMI nonprofits with humanities-focused missions or purposes may also request funds for general operating costs.

CNMI groups awarded during the first round of funding include:

– Inetnun Åmut yan Kutturan Natibu/Mwiischil Safey me Kkoor Aramasal Faluw, or AMUT/SAFEY, $19,443;

– Pacific Historic Parks, $20,000;

– Commonwealth Cancer Association, $20,000;

-NMI Museum of History and Culture, $19,990;

-Chamorro-Carolinian Language Policy Commission, $19,834.

“We are pleased to be able to help organizations strengthen their operations, services and programs to effectively adapt to the circumstances created by this pandemic,” said Leo Pangelinan, the council’s executive director. Awardees will use funds to develop humanities programming, support general operational costs, and implement strategic planning and capacity building activities.

ASAP was made possible by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities as part of the American Rescue Plan and the NEH Sustaining the Humanities through the American Rescue Plan Initiative.
