The Commonwealth Utilities Corp., in partnership with the Water Task Force, will be replacing the Puerto Rico water storage tank to ensure a reliable water supply in Puerto Rico and surrounding communities.
According to CUC, the existing water storage tank is now unsafe. A recent inspection uncovered the failure of roof support rafters and other weaknesses in the tank.

The project is funded through a $1.5 million grant from the Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration combined with $500,000 in matching funds from the CNMI.

The project was designed by Duenas, Camacho & Associates and will be built by AIC Marianas. Construction is expected to begin in about three weeks, according to CUC.

“Replacement of the tank will result in reduced water storage since the existing tank will be out of service throughout the demolition and construction of the new tank, approximately 10 months,” a CUC statement said.

Areas that will be effected are from the intersection of Sadog Tasi and Chalan Pale Arnold Road, south to the intersection of Beach Road and Gualo Rai Road. At this time, expected water hours will be from 6am to 11:30am, Monday through Sunday. CUC said it will make every effort to supply as much water as possible to the affected areas.

CUC encourages those that have water tanks and cisterns to take steps to make sure that their on-site equipment is fully functional and sanitary. For more information, contact the CUC Water Division at (670) 322-5030/31. (Moneth G. Deposa)
