Twenty-eight cadets are currently undergoing training to become corrections officers, according to Department of Corrections Commissioner Robert A. Guerrero.

“It’s a three-month-long course,” Guerrero said Friday.

He said the cadets are learning various courses such as constitutional law to officers’ survival.

Guerrero said the training unit has various police officers, lawyers, medics, and nurses who are teaching the cadets.

The training kicked off in April and graduation is scheduled by the end of July.

The commissioner said the cadets will augment the current shift of manpower.

“We have enough to maintain the security of the facility,” said Guerrero when asked how many officers DOC currently has, adding that he can’t reveal the numbers due to security reasons.
