248 expected to graduate at UOG this fall

MANGILAO, Guam—The University of Guam is expected to confer 248 degrees during its fall 2016 commencement ceremony at 2pm on Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016, at the UOG Calvo Field House.

Of the expected graduates, 190 will receive undergraduate degrees and 58 will receive graduate degrees.

Commencement speaker

The commencement speaker will be Brig. Gen. Tracy L. (Artero) Smith who currently serves as the deputy commanding general for Support, 807th Medical Command. Earlier this year, she became the first Chamorro woman to make the rank of general officer in the armed forces with her promotion to brigadier general in the U.S. Army Reserve Medical Service Corps.

An alumna of UOG, Smith was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Medical Service Corps through the ROTC program at the University of Guam, where she was awarded a four-year Merit Scholarship and a two-year ROTC national scholarship.  She graduated with a bachelor of Business Administration in 1987. She holds a masters of Business Administration from Troy State University, 2002 and a masters in Strategic Studies from the Army War College, 2007, resident.
