Twenty-four students topped the 2021 Scripps classroom spelling bee competition at Green Meadow School, paving their way for the school championship in January 2021.

With this year’s coronavirus pandemic and the restrictions that came with school openings, a number of extracurricular activities had been cancelled but, thanks to Scripps Spelling Bee, it created a solution by allowing either virtual or in-person competition this school year.

Each class, from first to eighth grade, conducted an oral spelling bee, with some students in class and others online, and every class came up with the Top 3 winners. So far, this was the first major school competition held by GMS since the school lockdown in March 2020. The top 24 students are now preparing for the school championship to be held next year.

GMS school principal Milagros Songcuan did not hesitate to enroll in this year’s Scripps Spelling Bee because she is convinced that enrolling in this kind of program will help GMS students widen their vocabulary and enhance their skills in spelling competition.

The 2021 Scripps Classroom Spelling Bee winners are:

1st Grade: Roanne DC Palma (first place); Jaydn T. Palacios (second place); and John Raphael Aguon (third place)
