Twenty-two teams will be seeing action in the 2016 Saipan Little League Baseball which will open this Saturday at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacio Ballfield.
“We are secured with the 22 teams, 10 in the Majors and 4 each in the Junior, Senior, and Big League divisions,” SLLB president A.J. Muris told Saipan Tribune.
Last season’s finalist Braves lead the Majors division cast and will be joined by the Talaabwogh Falcons, Comets, IT&E Kagman, Pirates, Little Legals, McDonald’s, and Twins. One more team has yet to select its name. Interestingly, the 2015 champion Bank of Saipan Red Sox is not on the list.
For the Junior League, the defending champions Falcons are back and will be vying for the division crown against the Enforcers, Braves, and Red Sox. The Red Sox, Falcons, and defending champions Enforcers also entered teams in the Senior League, while the Comets complete the field. In the Big League, the division is without defending champion Fielders, leaving the Braves, Yankees, Comets, and Red Sox the chance to battle for the championship.
Meanwhile, Murig said the two fields—“Tan Ko” and Miguel “Tan Ge” Basa Pangelinan ballfields—are being prepared in time for this weekend’s opening.
“I believe the ‘Tan Ge’ field is just about done with the fencing that was picked backup by Best Sunshine’s CSR Division. Tony Rogolifoi and his crew are working on the infield already,” the SLLB head added.
Murig also announced that a final meeting will be held this Wednesday at 5:30pm at the conference room of the Gilbert C. Ada Gymasium. Managers and coaches of the participating teams are required to attend the meeting as details of the opening will be discussed and ground rules will be finalized.
