Five young women are vying for the 2019 Miss Marianas crown this year, in an exciting competition themed to honor one of the islands’ ancient cultural traditions, celestial navigation.

Junalyn Billedo, Riane Capalad, Merly Fernandez, Sharon Palacios, and Shannon Sasamoto attended and completed the requirements of the 2019 Miss Marianas Orientation last Friday afternoon at the Marianas Visitors Authority and are ready to begin their journey.

“It is always a joy to see young women from our community rise up and embark on a new journey encompassing beauty, intelligence, volunteerism, fitness, leadership, and overall, personal growth,” said Stellar Marianas public relations director Monique Boyer Sablan. “The upcoming months leading up to the pageant will be filled with numerous opportunities for our contestants to shine as community volunteers and role models for our youth.”

The 2019 Miss Marianas Contestants gathered at Gold’s Gym Saipan Saturday morning to introduce themselves and talk about one important aspect of the competition—health and fitness—along with representatives of the health club.

Gold Gym Saipan’s fresh smoothies were served as the young women talked about why they decided to join the prestigious competition for the honor to represent the Marianas locally and to the world.

Stellar Marianas, the islands’ nonprofit pageant and talent group, is finalizing close to $25,000 value in prizes from generous sponsors and supporters for the pageant scheduled for June 15, 2019, at the Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan.

The 2019 Miss Marianas contestants will also be working with 2018 Miss Marianas Celine Cabrera in completing the re-launch of NMI Girl Scouts Chapter.
