200-plus avail of MAHAL’s quarterly health outreach
The Quarterly Community Health and Wellness Program last Sunday at the Minatchom Atdao Pavilion in Susupe drew more than 200 people who availed of health screening services.
Rene Reyes, founding president of the Marianas Advocates for Humanitarian Affairs Ltd., said a total of 280 people availed of free blood pressure, blood sugar, and eye checkups; breast and Pap smear exams, and flu vaccines for children.
Reyes said he was happy with the turnout because it was much larger than in previous outreach efforts. Some had health problems already while others just wanted to find out about their health.
The program was made possible and offered free of charge by various government and non-government organizations: St. Paul’s Episcopal Church led by Dr. Jeanoliver Grant (CHC physician), Dr. William Fisher, Dr. Christine Strong (CHC), Trina Sablan, and Alfred Maliaman of CHC-PHC, Dr. David Hardt and Marissa Hardt of Hardt Eye Clinic and their staff, Eric Mahinay; Elizabeth Jucutan, Rhel Balboa, Bryan Balboa, and John Balboa; Marianas Advocates for Humanitarian Affairs Ltd. (Rene Reyes and Belinda Palma and family, Fe Calixterio, Irene Santiago, Normita Cabalbag, Jojo Lazaro, and Virgie Paet), Boni Sagana of the DEKADA movement, and John Denmark Lizardo, SN and Joy Lacorte, SN of the Northern Marianas College’s Nursing Club.
The Quarterly Community Health and Wellness Program aims to promote healthier lifestyles and awareness, especially among those who don’t have free health care and insurance.
MAHAL invites those who did not attend last Sunday’s program to avail of the free services the Community Health and Wellness Program offers every quarter. Reyes urges them to “please mark your calendars and stay tuned for the next scheduled event.”
