Before the year ends, about 20 new police officers will augment the Saipan force of the Department of Public Safety, according to police chief Robert Guerrero.

He said the police academy cycle just recently started and that 20 of the cadets are for Saipan, five are for Tinian, and six are for Rota.

The training will be completed in four to five months.

Guerrero said the new officers for Saipan will all be assigned at the DPS frontline or at patrol section.

“That’s going to help us a lot,” he said.

At present, he said, Saipan has 131 police officers, Tinian has 15, and Rota has 30.
