2 teams vie for top ranking in Tuesday League
Tonight’s final schedule in the Saipan Billiards Association Budweiser Open 8-Ball Tuesday League will determine the playoff rankings as the Top 4 teams prepare for the next round of matches heading into the championship match.
Semifinal matches will have the top team taking on the fourth placer, while No. 2 battles No. 3 in the knockout matches, not what was earlier reported, saying that the squad with the most wins is the division champ. The winners of the semis matches will contend for the title.
The Tasha’s Str8 Black Ball remains on top with a 145-102 card with the 9 Eleven Docomo Hustlers not far behind at 144-103. The third and fourth places also remain a toss up between the 9 Eleven Titans (133-114) and the Chow Time-Blue Haus Destroyers (132-115).
Str8 Black Ball will take on the Destroyers, while the Hustlers battle lowly Chow Time Assassins (89-158) in separate venues later in the day. The Titans will play against Tasha’s Crazy 8 with the Top 4 teams aiming to clinch the much-needed wins to secure the final semis pairings.
The Hustlers moved closer to clinching the top spot after last week’s 8-5 win over the league-leading Black Ball, while the Titans also had the same results when they took on the Destroyers. The Assassins edged the Crazy 8, 7-6, in the other match.
The Chow Time 8-Black Ball (153-94), 9 Eleven-sponsored teams MJD Warriors (150-97) and Titans II (141-106), and the Tasha’s Wild Bills (132-115) are the semis contenders in the Thursday division.
Sands Team SCS (122-125), Chow Time-Blue Haus Homeboyz (103-144), 9 Eleven Jam Shooters (100-147), and Tasha’s Extreme (87-160) are the other teams in the lower half of the Thursday League.
The Titans, in matches played last Aug. 31, won by walkover against the Homeboyz, 13-0, and the Warriors pummeled the cellar-dwelling Extreme, 12-1, while the Black Ball and Team SCS scored similar 7-6 triumphs over the Wild Bill’s and Jam Shooters, respectively.
There are two play dates left in the Thursday League with the Extreme clashing with Team SCS; the Homeboyz meeting the Warriors; the Jam Shooters facing off with Wild Bills; and the Titans taking on the Black Ball on Sept. 7.
