2 Saipan businesswomen nominated for Maga’haga Award

HAGÅTÑA, Guam—Two businesswomen on Saipan have been nominated for the 2014 Businesswoman of the Year Maga’haga Award.
Esther F. Sablan, who owns the Saipan Music & Dance Studio, and Shirley Ann T. Sablan, executive vice president and general manager of Pacifica Insurance Underwriters, were named, together with eight other nominees, during an announcement yesterday by First Hawaiian Bank and Guam Business Magazine.

The eight other nominees are Cynthia V. Ecube, attorney, Law Offices of Cynthia V. Ecube; Mildred M. Gabriel, pharmacist, Guam Rexall Drugs; Monica O. Guzman, CEO/managing director, Galaide Group LLC; Eloisa D. Hudson, owner, sunglasses,etc., etcetera Boutique and ba6 apparel; Sandra E. Low, owner, Opus One; Liza Ann J. Provido, principal architect, Provido Tan Jones Architects Inc.; Pamela S. Quinata, general manager/area sales manager, Xerox Corp.; and Deanne S.N. Torre, managing partner, Bigfish Creative.

The Maga’haga Award will be presented at the Businesswoman of the Year gala on April 26, 2014, at the Hyatt Regency Guam in conjunction with the release of the Guam Business Magazine May/June issue, featuring a commissioned photo study of the recipient on its cover. Proceeds from the gala will fund scholarships at the University of Guam, Guam Community College, and Northern Marianas College.

The 2013 Businesswoman of the Year Maga’haga award recipient was F. Marie Calvo-Monge, chief operating officer and executive producer of Pacific Telestations Inc., which operates the stations of KUAM. Past recipients include Mary P. Rhodes (2012), president of the Guam Hotel & Restaurant Association and president of MARQ Consulting Services; Joyce Quinata Crisostomo (2011), executive director of Cars Plus and president of Payless Car Rental; Anna Wang Kao (2010), founder and president of Genghis Khan Furniture Co.; Lorraine S. Okada (2009), executive manager of Carlsmith Ball LLP, and president and owner of Managing Consulting Services; Julienne Rose Perez Duenas (2008), physical therapist, owner and clinical director of Sports, Orthopedic and Active Rehabilitation Inc.; Christine Won Pat Baleto (2007), general manager of Market Wholesale Distributors; and Katherine Calvo Sgro (2006), executive vice president and chairwoman of the board of Pay-Less Markets Inc. (PR)
