New laws have been signed by Gov. Ralph DLG Torres to retain two probation officers at the Office of Adult Probation and appropriate some $60,000 for the Rota Gaming Commission.

Public Law 19-29 amends last year’s budget bill to allow, among others, that two probation officers funded by federal funds for fiscal year 2015 to be converted for probation officers for the CNMI Judiciary or that the two new positions may be otherwise filled as new probation officers under government appropriations for the courts.

Another amendment to the budget act states that funds earmarked to the Group Health Life Insurance program and funds appropriated to the program for the executive branch shall not be reprogrammed for any other purpose. Any lapsed funds will be used to reduce the premium of the government group health insurance, and funds appropriated to the Group Health Insurance business unit may be used to pay unpaid claims incurred in prior years, the bill states.

Rota local law 19-35 appropriates $63,606.95 from funds specifically allotted to Rota under a past electronic gaming bill to the Rota Gaming Commission. The funds will be used for gaming and tourism enhancement activities, the bill states.
