Northern Marianas Sports Association president Michael White has renewed his call to all member federations to submit their respective developmental plans as so far only two have complied to his request.

Bodybuilding and swimming had already submitted their respective 1- and 4-year plans to further promote and develop their sports in the CNMI.

White requested for the reports as he encouraged member federations to become more aggressive in developing their athletes and monitoring the growth of their grassroots programs. Deadline for submission of these reports is set for NMSA’s next meeting on December 4 at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium conference room. White is only asking each federation to submit a brief summary of their group’s plans.

Meanwhile, the NMSA chief also lamented that only a few women are involved in sports and called on each federation to have more female players in their respective tournaments. White made the call after seeing that only Anna Calvert was the female nominee for the NMSA/TSL Foundation student athlete of the month (October) honor.

He added he wants sports federations to practice gender equality and again reminded them of holding an open tryout for their respective national teams, which will be joining off-island tournaments like the 2015 Pacific Games in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.

“They need to get these things done by the end of the year. Each sport should also hold one national championship,” said White.

The winners will be selected to represent the CNMI in other international competitions, like the Micronesian Games, Pacific Mini Games, and other tournaments hosted by each world sports federations. (Jon Perez)
