Saipan Higher Education Financial Assistance received a total of 1,038 valid applications for next year’s spring semester, according to SHEFA administrator Merissa S. Rasa.

Out of the 1,038 applications, 33 applicants are from the Northern Marianas Trade Institute.

Rasa said that the 1,038 applications are new, ongoing, or returning applicants.

SHEFA has 359 new applicants, 500 ongoing applicants, and 179 returning applicants.

“Out of these 651 are on-island while 387 are off-island applicants,” Rasa said.

In fall 2014, there were about 1,221 valid applications. The turnout for next semester is a little less.

According to Rasa the missing document notices started going out on Dec. 15 to all NMTI applicants and notices will also be sent to both on- and off-island applicants.

“First check request for spring 2015 will be made on Jan. 2. Applicants are encouraged to submit their supporting documents as soon as possible to complete their package for review and have their checks requested early,” Rasa said.

Rasa said that they are no longer accepting applications for spring 2015 and wants to remind the applicants that their supporting documents deadline is on Feb. 28, 2015.

Students who turn in their supporting documents will be reviewed early so that they will receive their checks if approved or not.

Meanwhile, Rasa also said that SHEFA’s annual report would be completed by Jan. 31, 2014.
