18 make initial field in San Antonio caging; Sunday meeting set
Eighteen teams have made the initial list of participants in the inaugural San Antonio Community Action Network Basketball League that is scheduled to kick off at the San Antonio court next month.
League coordinator Boy Garcia said of the 18 teams, eight are entered in the open division, six in the masters (40-and-above), and four in the U18 division.
Blue Haus, which has ruled several Masters leagues on island, leads the cast of the 40-and-above division and will be joined by GPPC, Pacific Islands Club, and teams organized by brothers Ariel and Benjie Abadilla and Jerry Lopez.
GPPC also has a team in the open division and will battle Beyond Limits, KB Market, and Five Star and the squads led by Cesar Barrozo and Donnel Isip. The names of the two other teams in the open division have yet to be selected, while only Beyond Limits and Angel’s Bake have named their respective squad in the U18 age group.
The league is still accepting teams and interested ones are requested to attend a meeting this Sunday at 5:30pm at the San Antonio court. Registration, team rosters, tournament ground rules, and details about the opening will be discussed at the meeting.
The inaugural caging is set to kick off tentatively on Oct. 3 with matches to be played three times a week of every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Games per playing day will be determined by the number of teams in each division. The league is targeting eight squads per category.
