Last Sunday, May 28, the 14th Wollak Golf Classic was held at Kingfisher Golf Links in Talafofo. There were a total of 15 teams competing and 60 golfers.
The tournament started off really small with just 24 of organizer Dan Wollak’s friends playing.

“My golf friends have a varied skill set. As a PE teacher at Marianas High School I am always coming up with rules during sports to even the playing field for people of all ability levels. Some rules changes for the WGC include letting people tee off from different tee boxes based on handicap, awarding free mulligans depending on handicap, and letting high handicap golfers have an allotted amount of ‘bocce shots’ where they can throw the ball rather than hit it,” said Wollak.

Over the years the tournament has continued to grow and sponsors started getting involved. Over the past four WGC’s Wollak has been able to make it a fundraiser. This year all the proceeds went to Saipan Humane Society.

The winning team was “Back Nines Matter” consisting of Amier Younis, Felix Rabauliman, John Favreaux, and Ben Rayphand who shot an even 72. Along with their cash prize they got their names put on the perpetual WGC trophy.

In second place was “Fore Dads” consisting of James Glenn, Ajani Burrell, Tom Linden, and C.J. Jensen with a score of 74.

In third place was team “Runaway Birdies” consisting of Dominic Kieffer, Rocky Anderson, Jorgina Lopez, and Jeremy Rother with a score of 74.67.

The tournament raised just over $1,500 for the Saipan Humane Society.

“I really want to thank our incredible sponsors. The sponsors are the main reason we are able to fundraise so much money for the Humane Society. Marpac Distributors generously donated drinks for the awards ceremony and merchandise for the raffle. Other sponsors who donated to the raffle included: Top Shelf Wine and Spirits, Joeten Motors, The Hut, Skydive Saipan, and McDonald’s Saipan and Guam,” said Wollak. (PR)
