15 Rota students qualify in All Schools meet

Fifteen elementary school students from Rota will head to Saipan next month after qualifying for the 2019 Public School System/McDonald’s All Schools Track and Field Championships.
Northern Marianas Athletics and PSS staff members went to Rota last Thursday and held trials to determine the Rota students who will battle Saipan and Tinian representatives in the All Schools meet on May 3 and 4 at the Oleai Sports Complex.
Guadalupe Weilbaacher made the grade in the girls U9’s 60m sprints after clocking in at 12.04 seconds. She also qualified in the 100m and 200m runs, while Niarah Muna is Rota’s entry in the U7’s 60m race. In the U11’s 100m and 200m, Aleeyah Hocog qualified, while Keisha Atalig and Krisha Aguero did the same in the U7’s 100m and U7’s 200m runs, respectively. Completing the Saipan-bound Rota girls team is Esme Manglona, who topped the U9 softball throw qualifier.
In the boys division, the 60m run qualifiers are U7’s Jace Barcinas, U9’s Logan Hocog, and U11’s Zander Atalig, while 100m event has U7’s Kody Mendiola, U9’s Gary Mejia, and U11’s Ryan Manglona.
For the 200m run, Dvaun Ogo clinched the lone spot in the U7, while Prudencio Manglona bested three other runners in the U9 age group, and Victor Barcinas prevailed against four in the U11 division. For the U11’s softball throw, Peter John Manglona bagged the qualifying slot after beating Titus, Lorenzo, and Marco Hocog and Victor Atalig.
Meanwhile, Saipan’s qualifiers are ongoing, while Tinian had its elementary school trial last month.
