14 staff to be stationed at new Kagman health center

The Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. will station 14 of its staff at the new Kagman Community Health Center once it opens in October this year, according to Roxanne Diaz, director for the Public Health Division.

Of this number, three key positions will be hired and appointed by the Kagman Community Health Center board of directors: the chief operating officer, chief financial officer, and administrative assistant.

Since the grant award of $608,333 for the project requires an in-kind matching fund from the corporation, Diaz said the salaries for the other positions will be shouldered by the corporation, including that of nurse practitioners, mid-level providers, laboratory technician, clerks, and others.

For the KCHC medical director, the corporation will cover 75 percent of the physician’s salary while the 25 percent will be paid using the grant award, Diaz said.

Besides paying for the salaries of majority of the center’s staff, the corporation will also provide supplies and materials.

Diaz disclosed that some hospital personnel have been already identified for transfer to the center. The center’s board, however, has yet to finalize its decision on this. Once the transfer decision is made, all personnel will perform full-time work at the new center.

In the event the board decides to give up the transferred personnel, the staff will go back to their position at the Commonwealth Health Center.

as long as they fit within the scope of work,” she said.

Staffing of the center is expected to be completed soon for the scheduled opening in October.

The CNMI, under the provision of the grant, has 120 days or until Oct. 1 to prepare for the center’s full operation. Diaz said that renovation is the first step and that it’s their biggest challenge at the moment because of the bidding and awarding process for the project. The new health center will be built at the old detention facility in Kagman II

Corporation officials and the center’s board of directors asked residents in the area to take pride and ownership in the soon-to-be built medical facility, which will serve not only Kagman residents but all island residents.

The Kagman Community Health Center will serve as a wellness, prevention, and primary care center.
