A total of nine teams-led by defending champion Mar-Pac-have so far signed up for this weekend’s 2012 Annual Crime Stoppers Slow-Pitch Softball Tournament.
Aside from Mar-Pac other squads that have thrown their hat in this year’s competition are Duty Free Shopping, Pacific Islands Club, I “Heart” Saipan store, Bridge Capital, Shell/IP&E, AON Insurance, Delta Airlines, IT&E, Docomo Pacific, Megabyte/Marianas Legal Strategy Group, Bank of Guam, and Pacific Amusement.
The NMI Crime Stoppers Slow-Pitch Softball Tournament will be held from May 18 to May 20 at the Capitol Hill Ballfield.
“Each year, the tournament results is a great deal of fun for participants and fans and generates loads of excitement” said Crime Stoppers’ Jill Arenovski.
Tournament coordinator Vinnie Sablan added, “As the event’s popularity has grown year after year, I have had more and more players asking to be placed on a team. The community just loves this tournament.it may very be the most popular fundraiser tourney of them all!”
Each team is sponsored by a local business who has generously donated to the Crime Stoppers Program this year.
Every player will receive team T-shirt in addition to a weekend of exercise and fun and the public is invited to attend and to cheer on their favorite team.
“This tournament allows Crime Stoppers to function for an entire year with its entirely volunteer board and the local program wants to express its appreciation for receiving support from this year’s participants,” shared Arenovski.
There are many unsolved crimes in the CNMI, including the disappearance last year of the Luhk sisters, the recent brutal murder of Emie Romero, and the highly publicized rape in Garapan. These criminals remain free to this day, and Crime Stoppers is committed to continuing to work with law enforcement to bring all criminals to justice. One solid tip from the community to the Crime Stoppers hotline may be enough to allow the Department of Public Safety to solve these horrific crimes.
The NMI Crime Stoppers’ hotline is 234-7272 (PARA); cash rewards of up to $1,000 are paid for tips leading to an arrest.
