Turnout for the mobile consular services conducted on Tinian was “not significant,” according to Consul General Medardo Macaraig.
Macaraig led the team that carried out the mobile consular services on Sept. 16 and 17 at the Tinian Dynasty Hotel and Casino. He was joined by labor representative Carmelina Velasquez, welfare officer Julia Fabian, staffers Nerisa Anastacio, Antonio David, and Rowena Tolosa.
Of the 119 who availed of the mobile consular services, 62 were for passport processing while the rest were for membership with Overseas Workers Welfare Administration membership and other services, Macaraig said.
“Filipinos also discussed several issues with Consulate officials, including the recent release of the regulations for transitional workers and the programs of the Consulate for the Filipino community,” said Macaraig.
He told Saipan Tribune that copies of the Consulate-sponsored outreach session with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services last Sept. 20 will be provided to the Filipino communities on Rota and Tinian.
\The Consul General acknowledged the staff and management of Tinian Dynasty Hotel and Casino, led by general manager Tom Liu, and other Filipino volunteers who welcomed and helped the Consular team during their visit.
These volunteers included Francisca Esguerra, who provided assistance during the information campaign and the actual conduct of services, and Fr. Sid Ogumoro who informed San Jose Church parishioners about the schedule of mobile consular services.
“The Consulate expresses its appreciation for the continued support of these individuals in its efforts to bring services closer to Filipinos in Tinian,” said Macaraig.
The Consulate is scheduled to conduct the same mobile consular services at the Northern Marianas College Rota campus on Oct. 1 and 2.
