11 earn wins via sweep in badminton tournament

Sweeps marked Week 2 action in the 2016 Tan Holdings Mixed Doubles and 45+ BC Badminton Tournament as 11 of the 13 matches over the weekend at the TSL Sports Complex were decided after only two games.
In the mixed doubles A, Jennine Savellano and Deether Edralin downed Ferdie Arago and Lanie Bartolome, 22-20, 21-1, and the winning pair also needed two games to beat siblings Jordan and Janelle Pangilinan, 21-13, 21-17.
Bartolome and Arago bounced back with a 22-20, 21-15 victory over Jaja Bocago and Rodwealth Espana, while the lone mixed doubles A match that went the distance saw Glen Bluutjens and Hannah Choi edging Arago and Bartolome, 17-21, 21-12, 21-18.
In the mixed doubles C category, A.J. Ortega and Merlie Savellano went 2-0, topping Chester Cuento and Roxanne Soriano first, 21-14, 23-21, before defeating Jun and Baby Banadera, 21-13, 21-5.
Cheolho Cho and Hyun Kung Jung also played in the mixed doubles C and won over Henry Ko and Kuen Lee Han, 21-19, 21-14, while Haram and Min Seo Kim handed the latter pair its second loss with a 21-15, 21-17 triumph last Sunday. Gigi Zapanta and Panapa Peteru were the other winners in the division after sweeping Kathy Distor and Rob Harrell, 21-12, 21-18.
In the mixed doubles B, Chris Hilario and Nicole Malasarte made short work of Fr. Charlie Borka and Vilma Reyes, 21-11, 21-18, while Windy Fernandez and Oh Im Bog had a similar two-game victory over Alvin and Anna Alvarez, 21-13, 21-14. The other mixed doubles B tiff last weekend had Patrick Fernandez and Bocago slipping past Christy Villaflor and Celso Agui, 21-17, 10-21, 21-16.
In the lone mixed 45+ BC game, Elna Curate and Northern Marianas Badminton Association president Taeho Kim defeated Villaflor and Tommy Kim, 21-13, 21-19.
