$10K cash bail for suspect in baseball bat attack

Superior Court Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo retained yesterday the $10,000 cash bail initially set for a Customs officer who allegedly pointed a gun at a man and attacked him with a baseball bat on Wednesday in Garapan.
Govendo said he finds the charges very serious considering that the suspect, Abraham Falig, is a Customs officer and that a government-issued handgun and a baseball bat were allegedly used in the attack.
The Office of Public Defender was appointed as counsel for Falig. Assistant attorney general Shelli Neal appeared for the government.
Preliminary hearing will be on June 22, while arraignment will be on July 2.
Police detective Catherine B. Pangelinan stated in her report that two police officers responded Tuesday at 7:04pm to a reported disturbance at the New Chang Ming Market in Garapan.
The alleged victim, Jack Sachuo, told the responding officers at the scene that Abraham, also known as Bong, assaulted him. Sachuo sustained bruises and scratches on his left elbow and shoulder.
According to Sachuo, he was sitting in front of New Chang Ming Market with friends when Abraham and a female passenger arrived aboard a car. Abraham got down from the car and allegedly hit Sachuo with the baseball bat but it flew off.
The Customs officer then allegedly pulled a handgun and pointed it at Sachuo. Sachuo dared Abraham to shoot him. Abraham then allegedly picked up the baseball bat and hit him on the left elbow and left shoulder. The baseball bat broke, prompting Sachuo to tackle Abraham to the ground.
Sachuo then managed to run to the New Chang Ming Market where he asked the cashier to call 911. When police officers arrived, Abraham and his companion had already left. Sacho was brought to the Commonwealth Health Center.
On Wednesday night, detectives arrested Abraham for assault with a dangerous weapon and disturbing the peace. The detectives seized the suspect’s Custom 9mm Glock pistol at his residence in Tanapag.
