$10K bail set for man allegedly found with meth before Tinian flight
A $10,000 bail has been set for man who was allegedly found in possession of methamphetamine, or “ice,” as he was about to board a flight to Tinian.
During a bail hearing for Rudolfo San Nicolas Borja last Friday, Superior Court Associate judge Joseph Camacho kept the $10,000 cash bail imposed on the defendant but allowed him to pay just 10% of the amount for his temporary release.
Borja, 52, was arrested back in April for one count of possession of a contraband but his bail hearing was only conducted last Friday.
Following the hearing last week, Camacho remanded Borja back to the Department of Corrections and ordered him to return to court on Aug. 5, for a preliminary hearing; his arraignment was set for Aug. 8.
According to court documents, detector dog handler Maelyn Naputi and her dog, Sasha, were conducting routine K9 inspection at the Saipan Commuter Airport last April 21 at approximately 3pm on passengers destined for Tinian at the Star Marianas Airline area.
During the inspection, Sasha responded to a small pouch belonging to Borja and, upon inspection of the pouch and his other belongings, several small clear Ziploc baggies containing white crystalline substance were discovered, along with a drug paraphernalia.
On the same day, at approximately 3:30pm, Borja was transported to the Customs office at the Francisco C. Ada/Saipan International Airport, along with the acquired evidence.
At approximately 3:36pm, the evidence found in Borja’s belongings were sent out for processing. After a field test was conducted on the white crystalline substance utilizing Presumptive Drug Test kit, the substance yielded a presumptive positive result for the presence of methamphetamine. The substance weighed approximately 0.3 gross grams.
