$100K bail set for man in drug trafficking case
The Superior Court has imposed a $100,000 cash bail on a man accused of trafficking methamphetamine.
Zhang Kui, 33, appeared before Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho last Friday for a bail hearing. He is being charged with trafficking and possession of a controlled substance.
Zhang, also known as “Driver”, was arrested by the Department of Public Safety-Criminal Investigation Division and Drug Enforcement Task Force following a “buy-walk” operation last June.
Camacho imposed a $100,000 cash bail on the defendant and remanded Zhang to the custody of the Department of Corrections after the hearing.
Zhang was ordered to return to court for a preliminary hearing on Aug. 12 at 10am and for an arraignment on Aug. 15 at 9am.
At the hearing, Zhang was represented by the court-appointed assistant public defender, Tyler Scott, while assistant attorney general Frances T. Demapan appeared for the government. Xuiming Callaghan served as Zhang’s interpreter.
According to a press release from the Department of Public Safety, Zhang sold 1.3 grams of methamphetamine, or “ice” to a DETF informer. No other information about the case of the defendant was available as of press time.
