“We’re still tabulating applications at this point but we are expecting more than 100 participants once again,” said PIC director of sports, entertainment and activities Glenn Policare.
He added that they are looking forward to a great weather for the runners to enjoy Saturday’s race, which is divided into the half marathon, 10K, and 4x5K relay.
The half marathon will start at 5:30am at the southern side of the PIC parking lot and from there, runner will head south and make a U-turn at the base of the hill near Pak Pak Beach. They will then head north towards the Garapan Fire Station for the U-turn and head back to PIC.
Gun time for the 10K race is at 5:45am also at PIC. Runners will head north and make a U-turn at Roshi’s just south of the Atkins Kroll-San Jose intersection and head back to PIC.
The 4x5K race will also start at 5:45 with participants heading north and making a U-turn at Triple J Wholesale in Chalan Kanoa before heading back to PIC. The first runner will then tag the next runner and will do the same thing until all four in the team completed the 5K distance.
More than $10,000 in cash and other prizes are to be given away to the top winners of the half marathon and 10K runs
Deadline for registration is today. Entry fees are $25 for the half marathon, $20 for the 10K race, and $10 each for the 4x5K relay.
Last year, Guam Olympian Derek Mandell ruled half marathon’s men’s division with a time of 1:21:05, while Mamiko Oshima-Berger duplicated his feat in the women’s side as she crossed the finish line at 1:35:58.
Guam’s Charles Epperson topped the men’s 10K race with a time of 36:15, while former Saipan resident Mieko Carey was the fastest in the women’s side, clocking in at 44:17.
Meanwhile, PIC annual memberships, rooms and accommodation, restaurant dinners and lunches, and Magellan brunch certificates, and other cash prizes will be given away after the race. T Galleria (DFS), IT&E Gatorade, Monster Energy & Pepsi, Triple B Forwarders, KL Carr, Calvo’s Insurance, and Triple J Wholesale are some of the sponsors of the race.
