Former champion Department of Community and Cultural Affairs leads the list. DCCA, which defeated NTT Docomo, 80-70, in the 2009 finals, will be joined by two teams from the Department of Public Safety, Commonwealth Health Center, Commonwealth Utilities Corp., the Judiciary, Customs, DPS Fire, Commonwealth Ports Authority, and Northern Marianas Sports Association.
League organizer Abner Venus said in an email to Saipan Tribune that there are a few more government agencies that are interested in joining the competition and BANMI will have to wait for confirmation next week.
Venus added that participating teams agreed in their previous meeting to kick off the league on Sept. 29. With the opening date set, Venus reminded squads that the $500 entrance fee is due a week before the kick-off date. The entrance fee excludes the $30 gym usage fees charge per team.
The league is exclusive for local and federal government employees and games will be played three times a week. The first game every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday is scheduled for 6:30pm, while the second one is slated at 8pm.
Meanwhile, BANMI is still accepting registration for the inter-commercial league. So far, seven teams have signified their intention to join the league that is open to all businesses in the CNMI.
Entry fee is $500, excluding uniform and gym usage fees and matches will be played every Tuesday and Thursday only. Two games are scheduled per playing day and only employees of the company they are representing are allowed to play.
