Ten students were recognized for their outstanding performance in the 2014 McDonald’s/PSS All Schools Athletics Championships held last week at the Oleai Sports Complex.

In the U8 age group, William S. Reyes’ John Mark Anastacio and Koblerville’s Princess Kasian took the top athletes trophies. Kasian had four first place wins in her age group, while Anastacio ruled three events and placed third in one. Anastacio prevailed in the 800m, 1,500m, and 400m runs and was third in the 60m race, while Kasiang reigned in the 400m, 200m, 800m, and 1,500m.

Kasian’s teammate Kacy Figueroa triumphed in the boys U10, winning three events (200m, 400m, and mixed relay), while Oleai Elementary School’s Aiko Rasiang gained the top honors in the girls division. Rasiang won in the 60m, 100m, and vortex throw.

In the U12 age group, the trophies for outstanding athletes went to Oleai’s K-Son Peter and San Vicente Elementary School’s Jaime Pangelinan. Peter earned the nod of Northern Marianas Athletics officials after lording it over in the long jump and 100m and helping his team to runner-up finishes in the 4x100m and 4x400m relays. Pangelinan, on the other hand, ruled the sprints—60m, 100m, and 200m—and finished second in the long jump.

In the U14 age group, Hopwood Junior High School had a sweep with J.J. Jones winning in the boys division and Jessme Jones prevailing in the girls category. J.J. Jones was the top finisher in three events, dominating the 100m, 200m, and 400m races. Jessme also delivered in sprint events, topping the 60m and 100m race, while he was runner-up in the 200m and long jump.

Completing the list of this year’s outstanding athletes were Kagman High School’s Jason Lampkin and Marianas High School’s Zarinae Sapong.

Lampkin was a force in field events, placing first in the softball and javelin throw and second in long jump and discus. He also had a third place finish in the 200m. Sapong won the 200m and 400m runs, softball throw, and long jump and was second in the 60m race and javelin.
