MVA targeting the military market

In a recent trip to Guam, the Marianas Visitors Authority, along with several other visitor bureaus from around Micronesia, participated in the Guam Visitors Bureau’s “R&R Tour Guam,” a tour put together specifically for military travel agents in the region.
The event, which included the Pacific Hotel and Restaurant Expo and the Anderson Air Force Base Summer Happenings, was a rendezvous point for the MVA and the military Travel Agents, Moral Welfare and Recreation (MWRs) Representatives, and Family Support Representatives.
In a 45-minute presentation to the agents, the MVA highlighted the unique characteristics of Saipan, Tinian, and Rota, introducing the Marianas as the preferred getaway for military personnel and families, riding on the scheme of “Three Islands, Three Times The Fun.”
The CNMI’s booth at PHARE and AAFB Summer Happenings was well received by all visitors to the events. Many people visiting the booth stopped by just to give warm and appreciative comments about their recent trip to the islands. Others had heard great things about the islands and came to inquire more about things such as, spas, hotels, casinos, historical sites, festivals, family activities and sporting events.
Both PHARE and Summer Happenings also gave the MVA the opportunity to promote upcoming events such as Taste of the Marianas, Flame Tree Arts Festival, San Jose Fiesta, and the Micronesian Games.
The participation of the MVA at this event is all part of the agencies’ plans to beef up the military’s awareness of the CNMI. With the expected military buildup on Guam beginning this year the agency is taking every opportunity to obtain a share of this lucrative market. Currently the CNMI is running ads in several military publications that are read by both military and civilian personnel and their families at all U.S. bases in the Pacific and Asia. (PR)
