The islands’ oenologists and epicures are sure to be delighted when they savor world-class wines tonight at the Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan Chambre for an evening of wine appreciation and tasting.

Sheila Peebles, liquor and tobacco sales manager of Marianas Pacific Distributors Inc., will lead the wine presentation tonight at the Chambre. She said the event would start at 8pm tonight.

Peebles will also hold presentations about wine and give out pointers on how to truly appreciate the subtleties of wine and wine drinking.

She also clarified yesterday that the wine appreciation night scheduled for Saturday is exclusive to Rotary Club of Saipan members only and not open to the public.

Peebles was invited to speak during last Tuesday’s Rotary Club of Saipan meeting at the Hyatt Regency Saipan. She said that nine of the world’s finest wines would be introduced. She refused to identify the wines, besides saying that her presentation would both inform and educate wine aficionados among the CNMI Rotarians.

Peebles has been doing wine presentations on the island, the most recent one of which focused on the difference between reserve wine and regular wine.

She said reserve wine is a premium wine, meaning that the grapes picked for this type are of highest quality than regular wine.

Although reserve has no legal definition, this term is often used by wineries to designate their best quality wines, she said.

Peebles has already shared with the CNMI community the five steps of tasting wine: Check the color, swirl, smell, taste, and savor.
